The DHO is one of the oldest alpine skiing clubs in the world - founded in Wengen in the Jungfrau Region of the Swiss Bernese Oberland in1925. The club has its winter base there, but is organised mainly from the United Kingdom
We provide a base in Wengen for our many members (almost 1500) with a representative and skiing guide in the village throughout the skiing season and provide information about the skiing conditions in the Jungfrau Region.
The club organises a wide variety of alpine activities in Wengen for holiday skiers of all ages, including, at certain school holiday times, 'Coggins' - a daily programme for young members from 6 to 12 years who are potential trainees or who simply need to get away from parents who can no longer keep up!
The DHO is best known for its high quality training of young ski racers, and has over the years produced more members of the British Teams than any other club. The Racing and Training Committee runs 5 camps per year, in October, over Christmas and the New Year, in February, Easter and in the summer. The training takes in all the major British ski races, such as the BARSC Championships, the British and English Championships. The Committee encourages trainees to apply for international licences, to enable them to race in international races. The Committee is always available for advice and help with all and every aspect of Alpine skiing.
