INGRID CHRISTOPHERSEN MBE
An appreciation, by Sarah Robinson

I have known Ingie longer than I care to remember and her enthusiasm is second to none. Her input to skiing, both British and international, has been considerable so the award of an MBE is richly deserved.
Ingie started out as the Oslo Children’s Champion in 1958. After that she progressed to the British Team from 1963 to 1968, entering World Cup races towards the end. She then went on to manage the British Ladies’ B team in 1969 and 1970.
In 1970 Ingie took herself off to Scotland and worked as the head ski teacher, amongst other things, at Glenmore Lodge near Aviemore. She stayed there till 1975 before moving on to work as a trainer with the British team in 1976/77. Then followed five years in charge of skiing at Aiglon College in Switzerland. In the early nineties she was solely in charge of the British Children’s Team and went to all the international children’s races. It’s a wonder Ingie has time for the DHO but she has been the Racing & Training Manager for many years and devotes her life to the trainees she nurtures.
In addition, Ingie is a BASI (British Association of Snowsport Instructors) trainer, holding the international Grade 1 qualification. She’s also a Grade 2 Nordic ski teacher and holds the Austrian B licence. Ingie is a FIS (international ski federation) TD (technical delegate) in both alpine and speed disciplines and does several assignments, both British and international, each year.
Ingie is currently a member of the FIS Children’s Committee and the FIS Ladies’ Committee as well as being on several British committees. She speaks more languages than we can probably count and translates for FIS. In her spare time Ingie also translates books and works at Glyndebourne every summer.
Ingie started her days with the DHO by helping Ros Hepworth from 1964 to 1975 and when Ros died, she ran R&T with John Latimer. She has been in sole charge of R&T since 1994 but now has the help of a committee. Not that she would call it help, of course. Ingie is Ingie and likes to do things her own way!
