Amateur Inter-Club Championships AICC
Racing Between Clubs since 2008
AICC 2020 Fabulous Flaine
and the Incredible Ladies Ski Club!!
The DHO had 6 teams representing the club in Flaine during the week of 9/14th march 2020 (just in time before the world closed down!)
Ladies Ski Club hosted the event this year and did an amazing job in very difficult circumstances thank you so much ladies ski club!. We skied, trained, raced and partied! We had Chemmy Alcot, Britain’s 4 times Olympian and ex DHO trainee, training us all and she was fantastic! Nothing was too much trouble for her and her husband Dougie Crawford. She inspired us all and we came away with a gold and a silver in the main races and a bronze in the mixed club parallel slalom. (More in the journal!!)
Here are some photos to whet your appetite for next year when we DHO will host the AICC!
Although AICC is not specifically a DHO function, there is a very strong connection between it and the DHO. Liz Moore, a prominent DHO member for many years, is a member of the AICC International Committee. The races were started to encourage amateur racers who may have raced as young people and want to continue in a social setting.
The Founding of the AICC
AICC was founded in 2008 by Cleeves Palmer, the President of the Kandahar Ski Club and he remains the AICC President. The races are run each year in a different location. In 2019, the races were run in Mürren. In 2021, it will be the turn of DHO and the races will be run in Wengen. DHO also sponsored the races in 2011.
The AICC races are a fun sporting and social event which brings together keen skiers who normally ski in many different resorts. They are also a good way to get to know a variety of different ski areas.
What and Where
The races comprise a Giant Slalom and Super Giant Slalom. Mens’ and Womens’ teams of 3 or 4 competitors from participating clubs race in three age groups, 18-44, 45-59 and over 60. Clubs can enter more than one team in each category. In 2019, 10 DHO teams (40 racers) took part.
Besides Kandahar and DHO, ski clubs in Cortina, Gstaad, Zermatt, Klosters, Lech, Alpbach and Meribel have hosted the races. In 2020. It is the Ladies’ Ski Club’s turn to host the event in Flaine. The races are well supported by sponsors.
How to Take Part
Racers are responsible for their own entry fees, travel, accommodation and meals. The entry fee for two races is CHF50. DHO may on occasion make a contribution to the entry fees for younger racers. To find out more, see www.interclubski.com, where you’ll find all the rules and other details. If you’re interested in racing for the DHO, please contact Liz Moore at email@example.com

AICC 2021 11th/14th march
Plans are already well underway for next year. The dates and events are Thursday 11th march team captain’s meeting, 12th march giant slalom (2 runs) and 13th march Super G on our famous Lauberhorn piste.
The event has a few regular very generous sponsors, but we do need more. If there are any members who would like to donate some funds towards this event/ or indeed a product for the goodie bag, that relates to Wengen and/or skiing we would be super grateful. You will of course be mentioned and very much appreciated
During the event we have banners relating to any sponsors and these banners need to be erected at the start and finish of the races, therefore I am looking for strong volunteers to take on this task…. This is just for male DHO members, you should feel privileged!!!
We are always looking for racers, and as we are the host club we are allowed up to 12 teams! However we must leave room for the other clubs! If any of you are interested in joining a team please get in touch with me as soon as possible! Places might be limited!
Hosting and volunteers
We are looking for DHO members, should you be in resort, to volunteer a little of their time during the week of 7th/14th march here is a list of a few jobs that need to be manned
Team captain’s meeting Thursday 11th march.
Meet and greet, handing drinks and canapes round handing out goodie bags to all competitors.
Friday 12th and Saturday 13th march
Gate keepers!!! We need at least 10 each day. It’s easy and your head gatekeeper pays lots of visits with hot chocolate, coffee, snacks and schnapps! You get to disqualify the opposition! Just kidding!
Friday 12th and Saturday 13th march
2 personnel controlling the finish area and making sure it is empty for the next racers. Keeping the crowds away from the scoreboard
Saturday 13th march
2 persons collecting bibs
Saturday 13th team parallel 3pm at the Figeller (snow permitting, otherwise on the bumps) if on the Figeller we will use the bar and if on the bumps we will use the Wasch bar as the “snow bar”
Keeping the finish area free of racers and spectators
Working the flags at the bottom
2 personnel at the top of the race , one on each side letting the racers go!
1 person at the top telling them when they can set off and calling the teams into line
Some of these jobs might sound complicated. I guarantee if I can do them you can all do them!
In order for you to take a look at the event this year please go to www.aicc-ladiesskiclub.org there are three videos which give you a very good picture of what it is all about!
I very much look forward to hearing from you with any suggestions, queries and volunteering to take on some of the above tasks!!
This comes to you all with very best wishes from a very quiet but beautiful Wengen . Stay healthy, happy, smiling, laughing and looking forward to next winter season!
